"Last Boss"- No Joy
Shoegaze band No Joy's new track "Last Boss" emerges coated in a layer of ennui. There's an unmistakable warmth in singer Jasmine White-Gluz's affected cooing, but it's burdened by boredom and isolation. The lilting bassline and steady drum beat outpace her languor, before lapping it altogether when ramping into overdrive. They erupt into a full-stream of fuzz and fragmented chords, but remain more intact than the disintegrating specter of Gluz's presence. Still she lingers, rising from the smoldering ashes of the instrumental section unscathed. If there's anything to be gleaned from the game-indebted title, it's that the hero can always continue.
Their new EP Pastel and Pass Out is available 11/5 through Mexican Summer.
