Don't say the title didn't warn
you with this one. This one comes batting catty eyelashes, cloaked in a Dracula
cape. Trade in whatever you're reading for a collection of Edgar Allan, and
head to nearest cemetery gate, because that's where you'll find Arctic Monkeys
residing on new B-side "You're So Dark". Death obsessed doesn't begin
to describe it. The band's own warped take on a soul track, it slinks through
the dark with a lurching bassline, mechanical drumming, and punctuated organ
blasts pulled out of a Gothic-church basement. Alex Turner's voice lingers in a
trance-like stance. Captured in a low-end drawl, he tells a story of someone
willing to turn towards the darkness in the name of "love". "I
know I'm not your type, because I don't shun the daylight, but I'm willing to start" he belts in
the hook, showing the first signs of a pulse. There's no better way to feel
alive than to have a brief brush with death.

"One for the Road" on a new 7" out this coming Tuesday.
In support of their excellent fifth LP AM, Arctic Monkeys are heading stateside starting December 3 in Seattle. As if the initial run weren't enough though, the Sheffield mainstays have recently announced an additional slew of dates in January and February of next year. Frontman Alex Turner and crew will trek down south, before hitting up the Eastern shore on a pair of tour dates with the shapeshifting Deerhunter (who will open).

"Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?"
Raekwon remixes "Royals"
Following the Weeknd's and Rick Ross' remixes of Lorde's impossibly infectious "Royals", the Wu-Tang Clan's resident chef has offered his own take on the New Zealand pop singer's track. Coasting atop the booming beat, Raekwon stays in his lane of "stoves and Range Rovers", and kicking back in some of NYC's finest dining experiences. Lorde's wide-eyed desire to be "royals" reflects the street-wizened vet's constant state of mind, to get the respect a near 20 years in the rap game commands. Raekwon's kept the "Cuban links" on, but he's still craving the crown.
In addition to sharing his own take on "Royals", Raekwon has dropped the EPMD-indebted "It's My Thing" which may or may not be appearing on his forthcoming F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art) release.

The Arctic Monkeys fifth go-around on the LP circuit is entitled AM and it's out September 9 via Domino. To promote the record, the band has already released the stomping "Do I Wanna Know?" and the featherweight "2013" made the rounds as a leak before being taken down by BPI. Today another tune has slipped through the cracks. The unadorned "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" clocks in at under three minutes and sports a plainspoken Alex Turner on lead vocals. Unfortunately that tune has also become a casualty of copyright. That said it is slated to be released as a single in August, so check back in when that moment hits.
R. Kelly tells his "story"
Not far removed from triumphant hometown show at the 2013 Pitchfork Music Festival, R. Kelly returns with the pseudo-autobiographical "My Story", set to appear on his upcoming Black Panties album. Wedding his robo-vocals to trap drums and a subtle guitar strum, Kells grows out of the "Chi-town dirt" and celebrates the wealth that his ascendancy to R&B royalty has afforded him. A fairly subdued 2 Chainz pops up to "roll like cinnamon", while searching for a co-pilot. Just another chapter to add to the audacious R&B book Kelly has authored.
Jim James extends tour
My Morning Jacket's Jim James has added fall dates to his solo-tour in support of the meditative Regions of Sound and Light of God. Of course you can currently see him with the rest of the band on tour for the massive Americanarama with Wilco and Bob Dylan in tow. The MMJ frontman's vocals will soon be reverberating throughout the Midwest as James stops off at St. Louis' Loufest and the Telluride blues festival.
