"Flawless (Remix)" ft. Nicki Minaj- Beyoncé
"We escalate, up in this bitch like elevators, of course sometimes s*** go down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator," Beyoncé pointedly raps over the freshly minted electro burbles and operatic whispers of the "Flawless" remix. Considering it's the first song Queen Bey's dropped since the heated elevator fight between her sister Solange and husband Jay Z, it's understandable why the line is getting publicity. Heck I'm leading this review with it. But incessantly babbling about her addressing the "controversy" is foolish because it distracts from a near-perfect rework.
Despite the fascinating childhood samples and brilliant monologue from writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the original Hit Boy production was one of my least favorites from Beyoncé. Instead of comfortably settling into the spare menace of something like "Clique," he's constantly fiddling with pitch-shifters and mashing drum machines. The remix ditches most of the muss and fuss for little string plinks and coordinated drum strikes. Though it sounds moody, it's not in the slightest. Bey's genuinely giddy on the remix. Mrs. Carter playfully calls out "these thots" and laughs before a cash register sounds. Seeing herself in the mirror she reacts with fervent chants of "God damn, God damn, God damn." To drive home the point, the gleeful horns from OutKast's narrative epic "Spottieottiedopaliscious" make an appearance. Big Boi explained the unwieldy name was a, "Southern slang term for a girl that is superfine, bad, sexy, intelligent and jazzy all at the same time," and if anyone has ever fit that description its Beyoncé.
If you made room for a second R&B or rap artist in the discussion, Nicki Minaj would have to come up. For lack of a better word she's "flawless" on the remix. Without batting an eyelash, Minaj speeds in and out of crowded lanes of Instagram pics and "Princess cut diamonds on my Disney." She's a curvalicious fantasy. But realistically she's the warrior queen, hurling Propofol threats and shouting down anyone asking her to take it back to the days of "Monster." At the end of the tongue twisting middle she jabs, "He want monster Nicki in Sri Lanka, I told 'em meet me at the Trump, Ivanka, I said come here let me show you how this cookie tastes, This that "yeah n**** eat the cookie" face." If Beyoncé's trying to forget her recent personal history, Minaj is turning the page from her rap past. Why worry about what's in the rearview when what's out in front is this dazzling?

OutKast announce tour of over 40 festivals
Last week the ghost of OutKast "returned like the ghost of Christmas past" with the announcement of headlining spots at Coachella and the Governor's Ball, and today the ghost became much more corporeal.
In addition to the aforementioned spots, Andre 3000 and Big Boi have announced their plans to play some 40 festivals to "to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their unique and influential sound." No dates have been published yet, but the tour will begin with the Coachella gig before continuing throughout the summer. In the release, 3 Stacks explains the group's reasoning for reuniting saying, "returning to the stage together is the most exciting way for us to thank everyone for their 20 years of supporting OutKast."
So even though Coachella's already sold out, it looks like 'Kast fans throughout the country will still have the chance to see the Atlanta duo before the year is up. While you wait for more details, let the impossibly catchy "Ms. Jackson" help pass the time.
Categorizing experimental three-piece Liars' work is a fool's errand at best and absolutely maddening at worst. Over the course of 6 records, the L.A. band constant defied expectations and shattered previous conceptions; refusing to ever stand still.
That proud tradition continues today with the appropriately titled Mess. In addition to revealing the album title, the band has released the record's first single entitled "Mess on a Mission". A herky-jerky slice of bleeting electronics and stymied vocals, its equal parts sequel to the band's 2012 effort WIXIW and outright rejection with chorale freakouts joining the fray. "Facts are facts and fiction's fiction," the band repeatedly intones throughout the rickety number. And few bands blur the lines better.
Mess is out March 24 through Mute Records.

OutKast to potentially reunite for Coachella
OutKast reunion rumors have been lingering for awhile now, but today's news about a possible Coachella performance seems to have a bit more weight. Several sources have told Billboard that Andre 3000 and Big Boi will reunite for 2014's Coachella festival in April, before performing at "additional festival dates in 2014". However, sources are conflicted at this point with one assuring there have been "some conversations" about an OutKast reunion, while another contends "all systems go". Coachella organizer Goldenvoice has yet to comment on the "conversations" nor has anyone from the OutKast camp.
While you wait for OutKast to potentially return like the "ghost of Christmas past", enjoy the video for the classic "Ms. Jackson" posted below.
Kanye West releases "Bound 2" video
Kanye West appeared on Ellen today, where he talked about Kim Kardashian and baby North, while also debuting his new video for the soulful Charlie Wilson-feature "Bound 2". The video which cycles through l0w-budget stock footage and green-screens, sees West and
Kardashian riding across the U.S. landscape. Directed by Nick Knight, it's perfectly in keeping with the minimalist feel West brought to Yeezus, but still totally compelling. Check out the uncensored version below, which features a topless Kim Kardashian (if you've somehow never seen that before).
West is currently out on his Yeezus tour featuring Kendrick Lamar and dates can be found below.

No OutKast For Now
In an interview with GQ the willfully weird Andre 3000, one half of the OutKast, has said "there are no plans for another OutKast album." Three Stacks cites his dedication to collabos and a forthcoming solo-effort as the reason for no new releases from the ATL-duo. This is a reversal from Big Boi, who went on record in '08 to give us the heads-up on the new 'Kast album. For now, OutKast fans can look for that Andre release, as well as Daddy Fat Sax, the follow-up to Big Boi's monstrous Sir Lucious Left Foot.
