A Tribe Called Quest joins Yeezus tour for final shows

As Drake's tour contracts, Kanye West's Yeezus tour is expanding. NY-natives A Tribe Called Quest will be joining West and co-star Kendrick Lamar for two November shows at the Barclay's Center and Madison Square Garden. And de-facto leader Q-Tip is saying the pair of concerts will be the last the Native-Tongues group ever performs. Taking to Twitter, Tip says "In August, ATCQ did our last show FOR Cali. It's only right we do our FINAL 2 joints where we started...NYC." However, it is worth pointing out that the group initially called it quits in '98 before reconvening in 2004 at Rock the Bells.

G.O.O.D. Music partner Pusha T will also be joining the Yeezus tour, acting as the opener for the October 25 in Las Vegas.

Speaking of "King" Kendrick Lamar, at the BET Hip Hop Awards last night, the Compton MC slayed with the TDE Cypher which you can see here.

Nirvana, N.W.A., The Replacements... nominated for Rock & Roll HOF

2014's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee list has been unveiled and the immediate headline is Nirvana is finally eligible for the honor. To be eligible for the entry into the Rock Hall, an artist has to have released their first single or album 25 years ago and their cover of Shocking Blue's "Love Buzz" hit the quarter-century mark this year. Joining Nirvana on the list this year are: N.W.A., The Replacements, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Chic, LL Cool J, The Zombies, Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Linda Rondstadt, Yes, Link Wray, and the Meters

If you're handicapping the odds here, Nirvana becomes a first-ballot hall of famer. Anything past that is uncertain, but given the Hall's recent trend towards incorporating hip-hop acts its easy to imagine N.W.A making it in soon. Beleaguered 80s band The Replacements is currently riding a wave of good feelings with their recent one-off reunion and they have strong odds for inclusion. Gabriel's band Genesis joined the hallowed rock ranks in 2010 and his 80s solo output is unimpeachable. The much-maligned Chic has been on the nomination list for years, but Nile Rogers recent success on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories might be just the jolt the band needs. Almost every other artist from Rondstadt to Deep Purple is a toss-up, though some like prog-rock (a genre the Hall has long been dismissive of) band Yes and rock innovator Link Wray will surely have the door slammed shut on them.

Below you can check out video from Nirvana, The 'Mats, and N.W.A.

What's New(s)?

Sleigh Bells remix Phoenix's "Chloroform"

Following R. Kelly's silky croon remix of "Trying to Be Cool", Sleigh Bells have reconfigured the electronic-ballad "Chlorform" into a blaring bit of twitching synthesizers, cavernous drums, and saccharine vocals. In other words, they lay-waste to the original track and sift through the rubble for a Sleigh Bells track. Phoenix vocalist Thomas Mars makes an appearance amidst the carnage only to be swallowed up. It's less remix and more reclamation; one that could readily appear on their forthcoming Bitter Rivals release.

Kurt Cobain childhood home for sale

Kurt Cobain's childhood home will soon be up for auction according to the Guardian's reporting. The Aberdeen, Washington locale where Cobain lived for many of his early years is being put up for sale by Cobain's mother Wendy O'Connor and sister Kim Cobain. The two are currently asking $500,000 for the "bungalow" located at 1210 E. 1st St. in the hopes of connecting with someone interested in turning the home into a museum. Located two hours for the city of Seattle, the former Cobain residence still bears scrawls of Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin written in Kurt's room, along with an old mattress of his. Putting it all into perspective Kim Cobain had this to say, "We've decided to sell the home to create a legacy for Kurt, and yes, there are some mixed feelings since we have all loved the home and it carries so many great memories. But our family has moved on from Washington, and feel it's time to let go of the home."

The 20th Anniversary edition of Nirvana's final studio LP In Utero is out now and features a new 2013 remix of the album.

A$AP Rocky unveils "Fashion Killa" video

The floating synths and distended vocals of LongLiveA$AP cut "Fashion Killa" now have an equally airy video, featuring none other than Rihanna. The original track bore the line "Her attitude Rihanna, she get it from her mama," so it's only appropriate the muted, mostly white and black video spotlight the pop singer. The fashion conscious couple scour abandoned boutiques, as the tags they eyeball pop up on screen.  "Fashion Killa" detours briefly to spotlight A$AP Mob member A$AP Ferg performing an acapella version of the booming "Murda Something", from his excellent Trap Lord LP. Reflecting on the choice of Rihanna, Rocky told Park 106 "She's a fashion killa in my eyes. I respect her jiggyness. I respect her fashion sense."

What's New(s)?

To fulfill the promise of bringing you the newest in the new, a daily segment is going to be introduced to the blog, starting with the flagship post today. Every day at around 5PM, when most of the dust has settled on any major music announcements, I'll be giving a tiny compendium of anything you might've missed throughout out the day. No scouring for countless links only to be disappointed, it's all here (hopefully) under one umbrella. So enjoy the newest in the new.

Pearl Jam announces new album

After a recently concluded website-countdown, alt-rock veterans Pearl Jam have announced a new album entitled Lightning Bolt scheduled to be released October 15th. Their 10th studio album and first since 2009's Backspacer was produced by frequent collaborator Brendan O'Brein and is preceded by lead single "Mind Your Manners" which you can listen to below. Finally, the band will be touring the album starting in Buffalo on October 10 and will go through December.

In Utero reissue planned

In other grunge-related news, following the massive 20th anniversary reissue of Nevermind we saw two years ago, Slicing Up Eyeballs  is reporting that a similar reissue for the bristly, Steve Albini produced follow-up In Utero is in the works and scheduled for a September release. No word yet for what bonus material appear on the album, so for now click here to enjoy an unearthed promo clip for the album featuring comedian Bobcat Goldthwait and Kurt Cobain in childbirth.

Wavves side-project drops new album

Cali surf-punk Nathan Williams, de facto leader of the band Wavves has a beat-making side-project called Sweet Valley with his brother Kynan and today the duo has released a follow-up to last year's Eternal Champ, Stay Calm, and Jenova albums. The almost 40-minute album is currently available on their Soundcloud page.

Animal Collective cancel more dates

In a sad continuation of events from March, Animal Collective is nixing the rest of their July tour appearances due to an apparent illness in the group. Writing on their Facebook page, the group says, "Due to illness, we will unfortunately not be able to perform our upcoming July tour dates, including the Camp Bisco and Forecastle festivals. We deeply apologize and tried our best to make it work with an alternate set, but ultimately we didn't feel like we were giving fans what they deserved from an Animal Collective show. We are working on rescheduling the non-festival dates as soon as possible. Again we send our sincerest apologies to fans anticipating these shows, especially considering the cancellations earlier this year." The tour will presumably start up again in the fall, the dates for which are posted below, along with a great clip of the band performing at the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival.
