What's New(s)?

Karen O and N.A.S.A.'s cover of "I Shot the Sheriff" now has as an animated video
(Pitchfork)

During this year's Grammys and Super Bowl broadcasts, electronics-company Sonos aired a clip that featured the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O and rap-collective N.A.S.A. performing Bob Marley's iconic "I Shot the Sheriff". Now the grooving electronic take has an appropriately psychedelic video to accompany it. Released by N.A.S.A. and featuring illustrations from San Charoenchai, "I Shot the Sheriff" employs neon-colored cowboys, revolving disco balls, and skywriting in its revenge quest. It's the type of thing Sergio Leone would direct if he logged too much time at Studio 54 and is absolutely worth a look.

The Libertines reuniting for Hyde Park show

Provided they can stick together long enough to practice, English garage-rock revivalists The Libertines are reuniting for a show at London's Hyde Park on July 5. The announcement comes almost ten years after the band first called it quits and nearly four since an impromptu London gig and headlining spot at the Reading & Leeds Festival. However in the past week, co-leads Carl Barât and Pete Doherty both hinted at a second reunion. First Doherty danced around the subject in Israeli newspaper Ynet by discussing a recent bout of Libertines "nostalgia", before Barât cryptically told fans of the band to "keep the 5th [of] July free."

Though a pining for past days apparently isn't all that convinced Doherty to make a comeback. In that same Ynet-piece, Doherty candidly admitted "they told me how much they will pay us and, I cannot lie to you, I couldn't say no, at least not in my state right now."
The Hyde Park "British Summer Time" show will also feature the Pogues, Spiritualized, Maxïmo Park, and others. Tickets go on-sale April 30 at 9AM, but if you're unable to snag a ticket to the show there's always the glory of 2002's "Time for Heroes".

Broken Bells announce tour

Much of After the Disco, The Shins' James Mercer and Danger Mouse's second LP as Broken Bells, was a dancefloor affair for the melancholic set and now that disco-ball melancholia will be hitting the road. Partnering with the B612 Foundation, the duo will be giving one dollar from every ticket sold on the summer tour to the Sentinel Mission, a program that aims to "protect Earth while preparing for future exploration." An overview on B612's site expands on the program's aim, "Sentinel is a space-based infrared (IR) survey mission to discover and catalog 90 percent of the asteroids larger than 140 meters in Earth’s region of the solar system." All of which fits perfectly with the album's space-centric videos. Dates for the tour can be found below.

American Football reuniting for first shows in 15 years

The term "emo-revival" has considerably high cache right now, so there's seemingly no better time for original 90s emos bands to reunite. Which is precisely what Champaign-Urbana's American Football is doing this fall. On May 20 the trio of Mike Kinshella, Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes is reissuing a deluxe edition of American Football, their sole LP via Polyvinyl

To promote the record the band will be performing in their hometown as part of the Pygmalion Music Festival, before heading to New York in mid-October. In discussing the trio's intent for reuniting, guitarist Steve Holmes said, "Obviously, we knew the time was ripe for three middle aged dudes to play some old songs about teenage feelings, and stand around tuning guitars for a long time."

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pygmalion Music Festival and will also feature performances from: Chvrches, Panda Bear, Real Estate, Sun Kil Moon, Deafheaven, Speedy Ortiz, and more. While you wait for that, check out the band's dates along with their aching 1998 single "Five Silent Miles".

Reunion Dates:
9/28 Urbana-Champaign, IL - Pygmalion Music Festival
10/11 New York, NY - Webster Hall

I Wanna Go on Tour

The Stone Roses
The group is behind The Stone Roses, which has been called the greatest British-album of all-time.

Earlier today, it was announced via their website that alt-rock heroes The Stone Roses will be hooking up for a 2012 tour. The group will be playing their first show in more than 15 years on June 29, 2012 at Heaton Park in Manchester, UK. A press conference will also be taking place later on today and is slated to feature all four members. The show is being pegged as part of a larger "extensive world tour," by the group. Now if the Smiths could just get back together.
